Gene C. Reid Dog Park in Midtown Tucson

Reid Park [where: 3101 E 22nd St., Tucson, AZ 85713] has all kinds of loveliness to commend it. But the dogs living in the Midtown Tucson neighborhood certainly love it best because they can roam around leash-free, which is what most dogs do best.

If you've never taken your pup to a leash-free area, here are some tips to get you ready:
1. Bring something to pick up after your dog. The only good dog park is a clean dog park.
2. Keep an eye on your pooch. You will no doubt meet people who love to talk about dogs and the conversations can build into very nice friendships. But if you've got a bully on your hands, you need to control him or her. And if your baby is being bullied, you're the one that has to go to the rescue.

The easiest dog to take to a park is one who comes when called. I have a dog who comes when called at home, but is deaf at the dog park. So in case your dog develops the same affliction, be ready for pursuit – occasionally it's the only way to get him leashed back up again for the trip home. (It can count as your daily workout!)

If you're looking for an apartment near Reid Park, Cottonwood Creek Apartments and Cordova Village Apartments are both in the neighborhood and both allow pets. Casa de Sherry Apartments and Country Gardens Apartments are a few blocks north and they are also pet-friendly apartment communities. You can find these listings and more on www.hubbuzz.com. Start your apartment search here and just select "dogs allowed" when you're perusing and choosing amenities.

Your dog will thank you.
