Serra Mesa and Kearny Mesa

Named for Father Junipero Serra, a Spanish Franciscan who did lots of important and altruistic things like found the Mission San Diego de Alcalá, the Serra Mesa-half of this community is a small one that contains townhomes, some green space, office parks and a huge complex of military housing units. These areas also house a large Asian population.

The Kearny-part of these Mesas is a little more commercial, with car dealerships, fast food, big-box stores and the like, but it’s ripe for a renaissance. With the U.S. Navy funding a major renewal of older houses, nearby residents are beginning to see the opportunity that this neighborhood offers.
