…little cliffs, Little League and a little amazing


As you might imagine in a family-oriented, middle-to-upscale community like PQ, sports are big here. There’s a skate park, numerous sports leagues and recreational activities and, of course, the very well-populated Little League—at one time, it was the biggest in the country. Though the area isn’t developed too much commercially, several small shops and the nearby Mira Mesa Boulevard and Carmel Mountain shopping offer convenience.

But ultimately, you can’t talk about Rancho Penasquitos without mentioning Black Mountain. That’s right, Black Mountain. Rising a neck-craning 1,500 feet, this—and its surrounding natural areas—is the most prominent feature in PQ. The rolling landscape and mesas provide every resident with an opportunity to get away from the hustle that is downtown.
