…delicious on so many levels

Hey…you know stick ball? How about food, festas and tradition? Then you know Little Italy.

This history-rich area, once home to a thriving Italian-American population sits on the northern shore of San Diego Bay. It was settled in the 1920s by immigrant families who worked in the fishing industry. They created the neighborhood and visitors gave it the name. Fast-forward 80 years or so, and everybody wants to be here.

Businesses are popping up all over the place, from hot new retail store fronts to professional spaces. New construction is helping the growth. There are single-family homes, condos and flats. Funky shops, galleries and amazing eats all shoulder-to-shoulder with old favorites like Amici Park, Our Lady of Rosary Church and family-owned Italian import shops and restaurants.

Chill at a sidewalk café with an espresso…and maybe a cannoli. Squeeze your way into the crowd at the annual Little Italy Festa on Columbus Day weekend for a sausage 'n pepper wedge. And art…on that same weekend, check out the "Chalk La Strada"—it's a circa 16th century street painting festival where artists use colored chalk to recreate famous works of art.

Here, everyone is an honorary Italian. Bada bing!
