…as cute as the sisters themselves

As legend has it, the silent film star sisters, Norma, Constance and Natalie Talmadge, dedicated this neighborhood in front of 10,000 adoring fans, earning it the nickname, “Movie Girl Subdivision.” This area, near the heart of downtown, was to be a self-contained residential district where children could go to school from kindergarten to college without ever leaving. That’s right. Ever.

Luckily, you probably don’t get grounded anymore and you can freely walk the well-maintained lawns, gape at the steep slopes and swoon at Spanish-style homes. Adams Avenue, where Talmadge and Kensington meet, is the retail district with an art-film house and popular restaurants—so there’s plenty to do if you decide that really, you do want to stay forever. And that’s okay too.
