...plenty to wine (and dine) about

Escondido is known for its produce. Really. But even beyond the perfect avocados and citrus, the city’s proudest piece of produce is the grape. Numerous wineries are located in Escondido—in fact, the Grape Day Festival has been held here since 1908.

“The Mercado Project,” (step two of a plan to revitalize historic downtown), and the establishment of an “Antique District” has brought more than twenty new shops, art galleries and restaurants to the area.

Located 30 miles north of San Diego, this is a booming city for both residents and tourists. There’s the Escondido Research and Technology Center, the San Diego Wild Animal Park, the California Center for the Arts, the Mingei International Museum and lots of housing and condo developments. So whether it’s the grapes, the economy, or its reputation as a “Best Kid-Friendly City” and Money magazine’s “Best Place in the West” for retirement, Escondido has everyone covered.
