Just south of the Mojave Desert lies Victorville, once a stop on the world-famous Route 66, which now, appropriately
enough, is the city’s main drag (though it’s called Seventh Street these days). Giving a nod to the route’s roots, this ’hood is home to the California Route 66 Museum.

Located in Old Town Victorville, the museum sits alongside boutiques and antique shops, along with the Victor Valley Museum, which explores the town’s history.

Victorville, which was named one of Money magazine’s Top 10 U.S. Places to Live in 2006, is also the seat of the San Bernardino County Fair. Each spring, the arriving fair means carnival rides for the kids, plenty of livestock to judge, a rodeo, concerts and even a demolition derby.

Year-round fun can be had at the community’s 13 city-run parks, which feature baseball, tennis, sports complexes and golf. If it’s culture you seek, there’s a Performing Arts Center on the Victor Valley College campus, and for foodies, there are more than 100 restaurants in this ’hood. So whether you’re craving pot roast or pot stickers, Victorville’s got you covered.
