The Folk Music Center in Claremont

The Folk Music Center in Claremont, CA is your one stop shop for everything folk. Folk instruments, folk instrument repair, folk music lessons, folk concerts, folk history, folk stories. You probably never thought you were in need of so much folk. But I was just listening to The Old Scratch Revival Singers’ “Blackberry Brandy”  and realized that I, in fact, do need more folk in my life (throw in a little Bluegrass, Ragtime, Dixieland and Gospel too).

The Folk Music Center host events, offers classes and has a museum to boot!

Events and Concerts
In November, the Folk Music Center has a couple of events lined up:

Berkley Hart - 11/21/08
According to the Folk Music Center & Museum, the acoustic duo of Berkley Hart are hailed as masters of two part harmony and “dazzling” song craft. Doors are at 7:00p and the show starts at 7:30p. Tickets are $12.00.

Tellabration 2008 - 11/22/08
TELLEBRATION! is a night of personal and folk storytelling for adults.  A $10 donation is suggested. Call for times.

Museum
The Folk Music Center Museum has hundreds of rare and antique musical instruments and artifacts of cultures from around the world.

Classes and Workshops
The Folk Music Center & Museum lessons include beginner and intermediate guitar, banjo and ukulele. The classes are usually 6 weeks and cost $120 – which is a pretty good deal.

On November 9th, they offer a Children's Ukulele Workshop for $10.

As a side note, Ben Harper’s parents founded the Folk Music Center in 1958 and now you know where Harper gets his touch.
