…setting the stage for peaceful, affordable living

Hemet has two of the most unique claims to fame of any city:

1. It hosts the world’s largest play, an annual revival of Helen Hunt Jackson’s novel Ramona, which chronicles the life of a half-Scottish, half-American Indian woman growing up in Southern California. Written in the late 1800s, the novel inspired widespread curiosity in the American West. Really.

2. In addition to historical theater, Hemet also produces some of the U.S.’s shuffleboard champions, including Richard Sisk, Scott McCegran and Lee Osuch. (We told you they were unique.)

Such particular interests probably incite curious thoughts about what sort of town Hemet is, exactly. With a large number of affordable homes, including those of the mobile variety, plus a sizable retirement community, the town is actually quite ordinary. Big-box retail and subdivisions are plentiful, and—as you can tell—there are lots of community activities to keep residents busy.

Shuffleboard, anyone?
