…a desert oasis, minutes from the urban center of Phoenix

Peoria is like Phoenix’s sidekick. Thirteen miles from downtown, it’s the largest city in the Northwest Valley, offering tons of housing options (apartments, condos, affordable single-family homes, large estates), plus shopping (in a refurbished downtown), indoor and outdoor recreation and one of the best school systems in the entire state. It’s no surprise that this 'hood is in high demand among young families.

Check out the Peoria Sports Complex, where the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres train, and the Challenger Space Center, which simulates space travel and teaches visitors about math, science and teamwork.

The biggest draw of the area, though—and the reason why Peoria is called the “Gateway to Lake Pleasant”—is the 10,000-acre Lake Pleasant Regional Park. In addition to hiking, biking and camping, the park offers a full-service marina and boating, sailing and swimming in man-made Lake Pleasant. Built as a reservoir, most of the lake is surrounded by pristine desert.
