…a “salad bowl” with lots of variety

Established as an agricultural town, Avondale got the nickname “Arizona’s Salad Bowl” because runoffs from the nearby Agua Fria River made it relatively easy to grow crops like lettuce, cauliflower, onions, melons, dates, citrus and barley (yum, lunch).

Fast-forward to now, and the area is a fast-growing community with an influx of developments both residential and commercial. There are tons of housing ops, from older, more established homes to newer, master-planned communities to larger properties on the outskirts of the city. And, with its close proximity to Interstates 10 and 101, you can bet this growth will continue for a long while.

Oh, and if you’re a NASCAR fan, "start your engine," because Avondale’s the perfect place for you. Hosting the Checker Auto Parts 500 and the Penzoil Copper World Indy 200, the Phoenix International Raceway draws thousands of NASCAR enthusiasts from all over the country.

Add a few main drags with hoppin’ retail centers, a golf club and annual events like Billy Moore Days, and you’ve got yourself a varied, good-for-you place to live—kinda like a salad, right?
