…an all-American melting pot

And the winner of an All-America City Award for community-wide citizenship and civic cooperation is…Little Saigon (a.k.a. Westminster, CA).

This former Presbyterian temperance colony (we’re not sure what that is, but it doesn’t sound like it included much nightlife) is now one of the state’s largest, most vital Vietnamese-American communities. This urban powerhouse is teeming with mom-and-pop stores, restaurants, delis, bakeries and the international chain, Shun Fat Supermarket.

Vietnamese natives make up about 30 percent of the city’s total population, and a large number of doctors, dentists, lawyers, accountants and other professionals cater specifically to the non-English speaking population.

Shoppers take note: a 1.5-mile stretch of Asian-owned restaurants and shops on Bolsa Avenue has been designated an official tourist attraction. Also on Bolsa, you’ll find the Asian Garden Mall, Little Saigon Plaza and the Westminster Mall.

Westminster - Garden Grove- Asian Garden Mall

One of the greatest mistakes many Orange County residents make, is not taking advantage of the rich cultural experiences that are available within a few minutes drive. Despite the portrayal of the O.C. on television as the land of gate-guarded communities and wealthy soccer mom’s, Orange County remains a diverse, cultural melting pot.
