…SoCal lite and easy

Once home to Richard Nixon’s vacation mansion (dubbed the “Western White House”), and with a legit claim as the hub of the surfing world, San Clemente embodies a rich history and a colorful crowd.

In the 1920s, developer Robert Hanson envisioned a “Spanish Village by the Sea,” and mandated that all buildings exhibit some form of Spanish-styled architecture. Because of this, the town’s Mediterranean feel survives to this day.

San Clemente’s 33 acres of beaches are home to a slew of well-known surfing spots, and some of history’s best surfers have stayed to raise their kids in this laid-back town with its village vibe.

If you want to live in SoCal without billion-dollar homes and you want to trade in Hummer-driving 16 year-olds for streets lined with retro VW buses and cruisers, if you’re looking for easy freeway and train access to San Diego and LA, a thriving local merchant scene, and great schools, then San Clemente is your spot.

California Cigar Factory – Where Everyone Knows Your Name

The California Cigar Factory is a rarity on so many levels. It’s a place where people actually hangout and get to know each other. It’s a cigar lounge that hasn’t succumbed to trendy commercialism. It’s a place where you can get a haircut while you listen to progressively grandiose fish stories. It’s one of my favorite places in San Clemetnte.
