…all grown up and nowhere to go

Once termed the “baby city” because of its tiny size, Placentia, (Latin for “pleasant place”) is just about maxed out…and we mean
this in the nicest way possible.

The population of this northern Orange County metropolis has grown from 500 in 1926 to approximately 45,000 folkstoday, 92 percent of whom commute to jobs in neighboring cities. It can get pretty busy around here.

Managing the transit issues caused by all those commuters is a major priority for city government, followed by a quest to bring new retail opportunities and homes here. It’s all underway, but the continuing development of Placentia is in limbo while a number of studies are being undertaken. As only 150 acres are available for expansion, you can bet every option will be looked at carefully.

Despite the growth, Placentia has retained its small-town feel, and commuters are happy to kick back and relax on weekends, taking advantage of the many parks and recreational activities the city offers.

As to what lies ahead…stay tuned.
