…growing old gracefully

There’s plenty of open space and recreational activities in Laguna Woods, which prides itself on being one of the country’s premier retirement destinations. In fact, the average age of residents here is 78.

Ninety percent of the city’s four-square-miles is made up of Laguna Woods Village, formerly known as Leisure World, a gated community of approximately 18,000 active seniors. Maybe a marathon isn't on the agenda, but there are fitness classes, swimming, golf (golf carts rule), tennis, shuffleboard, table tennis, bridge and more.

A bus service connects residents to several thriving commercial centers outside the gated village, including the Laguna Hills mall, where you’ll find Macy’s, JCPenney, Sears and almost 100 specialty stores.

Who would have thought a town with an average age of 78 could be so bustling?
