When the demands of life leave you needing a lazy day, it’s tough to beat a snooze on the beach after a plate full of comfort food from La Galette Creperie. Located a stone’s throw from the San Clemente Pier, this hole-in-the-wall treasure will leave you licking your lips and savoring life.
For the uninitiated, a crepe (it rhymes with grape) is a thin, pancake-like creation popular in France. Unlike traditional pancakes however, they are used like tortillas and wrapped around sweet or savory ingredients ranging from fresh berries to barbecue chicken.
The La Galette Creperie takes crepes to the next level, blending traditional recipes with unique ingredients. Local favorites include the Chicken Fuji Crepe (apples, gorgonzola, and hazelnut sauce) and the Chicken Apple Sausage Scramble (Aiddel’s sausage, rosemary potatoes, eggs, and country gravy).
The restaurant itself feels just like a tiny Parisian café, with most of the tables situated outside overlooking the pier. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a cup of coffee or hot tea (which is served in adorable individual teapots), while you ponder whether or not working for a living is really worth it.
The only bad news about La Galette Creperie is that you’re not the first to discover it. You’d be taking your life in your own hands to try and eat there on a weekend morning, so save it for a weekday when you’ve called in sick to work.
The restaurant only takes cash, so be sure to come prepared. If you’re not, there’s an ATM inside the convenience store located a few doors down. With most crepes priced between $6 – 8, breakfast for two with coffee and a tip will set you back about $25.
The La Galette Creperie is located at 612 Avenida Victoria, directly across from the San Clemente Pier. The vast majority of parking in the surrounding area is metered, so be sure to bring a couple of dollars in quarters.
