…where the surf’s always up

This middle- and upper-middle class area, a.k.a. “Surf City,” is well known for its 8.5-mile stretch of beach, where the climate is mild and the surf is excellent—so excellent, in fact, that it’s mondo, even sick. What better place to hold the world surfing championships and feature the International Surfing Museum?

But if wading out for a killer sesh ain’t your thing, you can always practice for the National Professional Paintball League Super 7 Championships (their first event is in March). Or, take a walk down the famous pier, built in 1914 and re-built as the largest on the West Coast in the 1990s. Check out the Bolsa Chica wetlands, a 300-acre coastal sanctuary for birds, and Huntington Beach Central Park, 350 acres of nature's best with Frisbee and concert areas, dog parks, playgrounds and a nature center.

Good news—you don’t have to learn surfer slang if you move here. We’ve made it quite obvious that it doesn’t sound right without a board in hand.
