Sailor/author Richard Henry Dana referred to this area as “the only romantic spot in California.”

Now, with all due respect to Mr. Dana, California is a large and varied state. Maybe some parts don’t have the seven miles of coastal bluffs and rolling hills along the Pacific, and maybe they don’t have Dana Point Harbor, a man-made locale perfectly positioned for whale-watching. Maybe other parts of California don’t have Doheny State Park, a popular, 41.1-acre beach facility that offers opportunities for camping, picnicking, swimming, surfing, biking, surf-fishing, exploration… and wifi!

So, okay. There’s really no match for Dana Point — that’s why so many hotels have secured resort properties here, along with retail and restaurants. Residents of Dana Point apartments, as well as the rich and famous, enjoy the Spanish-style town’s majestic views of the Pacific’s pounding surf and small touches like streetlamps that look like kerosene lamps.
