Change neighborhood to:
…where yuppies and hipsters feel at home
Uptown is chic, but not in a pretentious way. Locals mingle at indie coffee shops, rollerblade along the trails or just stroll through the ‘hood.
There are tons of housing options here – from the popular high-rise apartments and 4-plexes to condo-converted mansions and turn-of-the-century single-family homes. For those with dogs or tots, there’s a park for play. And runners are as common in this community as winter snow boots.
This ‘hood is home to a large population of artsy-types, and is filled with indie music and book shops, clothing and specialty stores, cafes and restaurants. It's anchored by Calhoun Square, an “urban mall,” where there's even more retailers, eateries (Figlio has a $2 happy hour) and entertainment (ComedySportz offers the art of improv). Or, if you're feeling a little bookish, head for the Walker Library—it resides under a small park.
Summer brings the Uptown Art Fair to the community where some 360 artists display their wares under a blanket of song, dance, and, of course, cocktails. November means Coffeefest in Uptown, a two-decades-old charity event featuring every coffee, tea and delectable snack under the sun.
