This area includes the Bancroft, Bryant, Corcoran, Powderhorn Park and Standish neighborhoods, and represents a
wide swath of South Minneapolis.

The eastern edge of the area is Hiawatha Avenue, which is where you can pick up the light-rail and head north to downtown, or south all the way to the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport. There’s lots of park-and-ride space available.

Sections of this neighborhood can get a little rough, but a redevelopment plan for the Lake Street corridor is expected to have a major positive impact, including commercial rehab, new apartments and condos.

The centerpiece of the neighborhood has to be Powderhorn Park itself. With 65 acres of land, including a 12-acre lake, Powderhorn is a community treasure. This is where Twin Citians gather to ring in the spring with the hugely popular May Day Festival (think Mardi Gras, but without the nudity). It’s also host to 4th of July celebrations and fireworks as well as the annual August Art Fair.

The light-rail will take you out to the Mall of America, but this area rewards you with fun and funky shopping—everything from Ingebretsen's for all things “Scandihoovian” to the Midtown Global market nearby. And you can’t throw a rock without hitting a great ethnic eatery. We like it.
