Change neighborhood to:
… move in, hang out
Close to St. Paul and Minneapolis, Macalester-Groveland (or Mac-Groveland to locals) is a charming mix of college and neighborhood life. It's home to Macalester College and University of St. Thomas (the College of St. Catherine is pretty close, too).
In fact, it’s such a great spot, that many people who go to school around here often settle in the 'hood when they're done. That’s saying something, when you consider that property values are generally higher than the city’s average. The colleges pretty much guarantee a fair number of student-friendly apartments (think vine-covered brick buildings), and two-story squares are sprinkled around the area.
There are biking and walking paths along Mississippi River Boulevard that take you atop 100-foot-tall riverbank bluffs for some great views.
You’ll never be at a loss for cool shops, fun indie restaurants and nightlife, particularly near the campuses. Part of the Grand Avenue shopping strip runs through Mac-Groveland as well, adding to the retail and dining opps here. It also adds to the traffic—Grand can be especially hard to navigate on weekends—but if you live here, you can walk to most anything you want.
Problem solved.
