Highland Park…a mixed bag

Highland Park is full of opposites: stately residences and industrial buildings, indie retailers and the big-box boys, a
wide green space (the “park” in Highland Park) and an abandoned car plant.

Despite the dichotomy, this ‘hood is flush with residents who enjoy the variety of Highland Park apartments (from high-rises to classic brick buildings), proximity to the trail system, the convenience of conventional shopping and the uniqueness of the river-side boutiques, eateries, and the views. Highland Park–the actual park–is large, wooded and great for deer spotting.

Located in the southwestern corner of St. Paul, Highland Park–the neighborhood–is just across the river from the airport and also is the city’s main Jewish neighborhood. Here you’ll find most of the synagogues, along with the College of St. Catherine and two private prep schools.

Plans to re-develop the old Ford plant that closed in 2007 are in the works, most likely as a mixed-use facility complete with retailers and residences. Start your engines.
