…the joint’s jumping

Local politicians call this ‘hood Thomas-Dale. Whatever. To everyone else it is and always will be Frogtown. As the story goes, this used to be a frog-infested marsh. Things have definitely changed around here.

What you've got here today is one of the oldest neighborhoods in St. Paul. And it’s moving and shaking itself into the 21st century. The area suffered when the railroad shops finally shut down in the 1970s, but starting in the early 90s the spiff-up began. Artists took over an old printing press factory and turned it into lofts (the kind with seriously cool brick walls and windows up to the sky). And the transition continues with a sprinkling of new condos among the old houses and historic buildings.

Frogtown has everything you need. University Avenue is like shopping central. Not only can you see downtown St. Paul (and the Minnesota State Capitol) from here, you can walk to the St. Paul Cathedral and downtown shops and restaurants. Where else can you live next to a building that’s on the national Register, but still be two minutes from a Wal-Mart?
