…find yourself in friendly Fridley

An older suburb of Minneapolis, Fridley was built up after World War II, and the bulk of the housing is 1950s through 1970s vintage. It’s a mix of residential and office park, with easy access to anything via I-694. Starting in 2009, you’ll also be able to catch the Northstar Corridor commuter train into downtown Minneapolis. Doesn’t get any easier than that.

If you’re looking to do something active, check out the Springbrook Nature Center, and go biking, hiking, skiing or birding on its forest trails and floating wetland boardwalks. On the western edge of town, there’s the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area. The city has the ubiquitous gorgeous parks, and a leg of the Mississippi River Regional Trail. Or explore your artsy side and take a class at the Banfil-Locke Center for the Arts.

Shopping and dining out options are mostly the big boxes and chains, though you can find a smattering of local and independent eateries. And of course, you can’t miss Fridley’s ‘49er Days Festival. Celebrating the city’s incorporation in 1949, it’s got everything: parade, carnival, craft show—even the Miss Fridley pageant.
