Change neighborhood to:
…suburb in the city
The Greater East Side is the northeast corner of St. Paul, and it’s made up of 10 individual ‘hoods: Beaver Lake Heights, East Phalen, Forest Lake, Hayden Heights, Hazel Park, Hillcrest, Lincoln Park, Parkway/Greenbrier, Phalen Village, Prosperity Heights.
These communities are snuggled up to the suburb of Maplewood, home to 3M Corp. Since 3M is one of Minnesota’s biggest employers, it’s no surprise that this area has always been a proud supplier of the company’s labor force.
The East Side is known primarily as a middle-class, residential neighborhood, with houses in a wide range of vintages. The southeast corner, known as Beaver Lake Heights, is an example of early planned development—an effort to revitalize a run-down area and create an ideal living area for workers.
Plenty of parks as well as Phalen, Frost and Beaver Lakes provide green space, and Ames Lake Wetland was recently reclaimed as part of the Phalen Corridor, which links the east side to downtown.
Other amenities include a golf course, rec centers, libraries and the Hillcrest Shopping Center. So we ask: what’s not to like?
