Change neighborhood to:
…a birds-eye view of St. Paul
Perched high above the east bank of the Mississippi, overlooking downtown St. Paul, is Dayton’s Bluff. An old neighborhood, some of its houses have been here for over 100 years. And some of the residents are a lot older than that…
Indian Mounds Park contains the only remaining native burial site in this area dating back 2,000 years. From those earliest of settlers, through the immigration waves of the 1800s and 1900s to today, this ’hood is steeped in history.
Unfortunately, like many older neighborhoods, Dayton’s Bluff has seen a serious decline. In 1992, however, the city council established The Dayton's Bluff Historic District, which has been an important step in revitalizing the neighborhood. Today, some old buildings are being restored as galleries, and new row homes and apartments are being built.
Metropolitan State University (MSU) adds some welcome stability to the community. Though turnaround is a slow process, there are some beautiful restoration projects that show the dedication of the residents and business owners here.
Stop in at the Swede Hollow Café, and you’ll probably hear all about it.
