Change neighborhood to:
…an off-campus pass
When you’ve had enough of the campus food, and the dorm just ain’t big enough for you and your roommate’s freaky stuffed animal collection, it’s time for a change.
The Como neighborhood awaits.
Just about a mile north of Dinkytown, Como gives you easy access to both the Minneapolis and St. Paul campuses of the University of Minnesota, and there’s plenty of room here. You can find anything from newer duplexes and 4-plexes to early 20th-century bungalows and Victorians, with many of the larger houses split into apartments.
There are bunches of cute shops and eateries dotting the neighborhood, not to mention an elementary school and park for the younger set.
The neighborhood takes its name from Como Avenue, which runs smack down the middle, and in turn takes its name from Lake Como in northern Italy—a rare Mediterranean reference here in the land of all-things-Scandinavian. So find a corner coffee shop, grab an espresso, raise a toast to old Italy, and then…get back to your homework.
