…a ‘burb with a plan

Burnsville residents don’t want their walkable ‘hood to be a typical ‘burb. That’s why the community created the Heart of the City project, a planned 54-acre redevelopment that's leveling the old drive-thru services and installing mixed-use properties primed for
apartments, condos, cute boutiques and other retail.

At the project’s center is Nicollet Commons Park (one of 79 parks in this city of 60,000 people), and a new “lifestyle center” (a.k.a. mall) is in the works. Residents also have access to trails and a ton of outdoor opps at the many green spaces.

One of the city's coolest green spots is the community garden where, for a small fee, locals can get a 20’x20’ plot to plant herbs, veggies and flowers. There's water on site, but don’t forget to bring a bucket, trowel and a green thumb.

Each year in Burnsville, residents take a page from New England and play host to the Fire Muster. The nearly three-decade-old tradition started as a showcase of historical fire equipment but has evolved into a serious parade, concerts, and, of course, fireworks.

Gives the name Burnsville a whole new meaning, doesn’t it?
