…dense, urban, up-and-coming

Westlake is a neighborhood that’s on the verge of being on the verge—that is, the area’s seen some new construction like apartments for some of the USC kids, and condos on Wilshire. The area is also home to some LA landmarks like the Belmont Tunnel/Toluca Substation and Yard (a famous graffiti canvas), Langer’s Deli and the first Tommy’s hamburger stand.

Despite its potential, Westlake is still waiting for that final push to transform the inklings of “up-and-coming” into a full-blown “it” neighborhood. Working against the area is the congested traffic and ubiquitous litter. However, a recent decrease in crime, the beauty of MacArthur Park, the Metro Red Line subway and close proximity to the 110 and the 101 ensure its place on the radar.
