The word is out. Among Highland Park’s already “not so quiet” neighborhoods there is a new trendy New York-style bar called The York. Driving down York Avenue (complete coincidence) the beautifully lit interior gives a glimpse of the striped elegance the space has. A large area with high ceilings and an industrial-chic aesthetic creates the perfect ambiance for a sexy rendezvous. The back part of the room is surrounded by exposed brick walls and pipe frames for the restaurant setup. I should mention the York is officially a gastrop (A Brit’s term for a pub with fancy grub).
The York is the complete opposite of frequented dive bars you might find in the surrounding areas. Getting past an eclectic crowd gathered around a few high tables reveals the bar. Stocked with a complete carte du jour of domestic and imported drafts, a mix of cocktails, and even an extensive wine list, I feel it is the true draw of the hip venue. Besides the wine and spirit experience, The York on York gives locals the option of dressing up or casually grabbing a drink. Either way you are guaranteed to feel the vibe.

Highland Park, Eagle Rock, etc., are not East Los Angeles - really. Where would that put Boyle Heights and unincorporated East LA?
