…a hidden gleam in west LA

A surprising bit of gold hides in the shadow of LA’s Century City.

It doesn’t come from the area’s decorative 19th century street lamps that hearken back to the 1920s, when Rancho Park was developed, nor is it the modestly sized (though generously priced) Spanish Colonial homes and bungalows, or the quiet, almost suburban feel to the area.

The golden hues emerge late in the year, when endless deciduous trees begin their gradual change from green to red to yellow to…well, if you’re from New England or the Midwest, you get the idea. But if you’re an LA native, you know that this is one of few places in the area where you can witness a taste of autumn.

And if the gold leaves fail to impress you, check out Pico Boulevard and the gargantuan Westside Pavilion for a different kind of glitz.
