Poverty and Caucuses

ONE is “the campaign to make poverty history.” That’s a pretty aggressive mission statement right there, but this online organization has done remarkable work and continues to do so.

Recently, they asked ONE members to write personal one-to-one letters to Iowans, to talk to potential caucus-goers about poverty and its invisibility as an issue on the campaign trail.

ONE members wrote 40,000 letters – yikes – and ONE has posted some of them on their blog, which can be found here. If you have the inclination, read the blog. The subject of poverty makes for intense feelings, particularly at this time of year when spending on stuff escalates. The heartfelt letters you’ll find at ONE’s blog will open your eyes – and it may make you want to join this great organization.
