…get wind of this great, growing suburb

We don’t know what it is about sagebrush and palm trees, but when set against the high, rust-colored desert of southern California, they can make just about anything look pretty.

Not that Palmdale needs much help. The largest city in the Antelope Valley, located just past the San Gabriel Mountains, it has about 150,000 residents, and is growing almost as quickly as its northern neighbor, Lancaster. Here, the aerospace industry is big, family is bigger, and the winds? Let’s just say that the gusts are so huge and reliable, the town runs partly on wind turbine-powered electricity.

With constant revitalization of different areas in the city (the downtown is set to include plenty of Palmdale apartments and other housing units), there are always new, cool things to do here.

One word of advice though—this city isn’t served by a major highway, so your next trip to LA may take a while. But relax! As the central hub for the Antelope Valley Transit Authority, the new Palmdale Transportation Center contains an extensive public bus system, Amtrak, Greyhound and commuter rail Metrolink station.

So sit back and enjoy the trip...the scenery’s gorgeous.
