Off Vine in Hollywood is a Hidden Gem

In the never ending search for Hollywood street parking on a Saturday night, I came across a quaint little place called Off Vine (6263 Leland Wy,
Hollywood, CA 90028). Not easily found among the trees and vines that conceal it from the busyness of the nearby streets, this spot is home to theater kids, local families, and industry people alike. Dining is set inside and out of a beautiful house built in the early 1900’s which was later turned into a restaurant in the 80’s. Since then, this special place is known for two things: a charming space and great cuisine.

On a cool night among chatter, dim lights, and heat lamps, outdoor dining becomes quite a treat. However, if you are looking to see architectural detail at its best, feel free to go up the porch steps and settle on a table within the bungalow’s kitchen, living room, and what might have been used as a reading space at some point. Art adorns the walls as shiny wood floors offset the bright colored walls. A very narrow stairway takes you to the second floor for a more private setting.

The space is very unique and inviting and the food is just as good. The American comfort foods are paired with fine wines and among the choices are tasty appetizers like fresh crab cakes and buffalo mozzarella with slice tomatoes and basil. On a second visit I will be sure to try the Blackened Turkey Breast with jalapeno cranberry relish. After a few starters and a couple glasses of Spanish wine one would be set but the friendly server might tempt you to try something from the lengthy dessert menu. Make sure to try the crème brulee or the popular Off Vine Soufflés to cap off a great date or a movie night with a friend.

So next time you’re in the neighborhood and have a few dollars to spend, check out this cute but sophisticated place that reminds you of home (or someone else’s really nice home) and enjoy a little piece of California dining off of Vine Street.
