…a modest retreat from the city

Head north on Sepulveda, one of LA’s busiest, most diverse streets, and you’ll eventually hit the small, quiet neighborhood of Mission Hills. Bordered by the 405 on the west, it’s one of the many communities located in the San Fernando Valley region of LA.

This diverse area, with a large Hispanic population, may be best known for the Mission San Fernando Rey de España, which was founded in 1797. After cycling from church to government to commercial warehouse to hog farm and back to church, the Hearst Foundation donated a large sum of money to the Mission for a complete restoration. It now stands as a parish church, and has a pleasant little park across the street that’s great for picnicking.
