…quintessential Southern California

The city of Malibu is a beachfront stomping ground for countless movie stars and easygoing surfers.

Though a little sleepier than you might think, this area definitely has its hotspots, mostly located off Pacific Coast Highway and Cross Creek Road, near Pepperdine University. Duke’s and Nobu are highlights, and of course there’s a Starbucks and a pretty happenin’ little playground where celebs bring their Shilohs, Apples, Suris and whatever-their-names-are.

For the most part, however, Malibu is conducive to the active, sun-loving spirit for which Barbie got her name. With the Santa Monica Mountains to the north, nearby national and state parks and 27 miles of Pacific coastline, you’ve got to develop a love—or at least an addiction—to the outdoors. Hidden spots include Pirates Cove, where nudists hide nothing at all, and “Little Dume,” a surf spot accessible only by an unmarked trail below Wildlife Drive.
