By day, the beautiful yet unassuming Piazza del Sol terrace provides a nice entrance to Miramax employees and visitors; but by night, the place comes alive as one of LA’s trendiest restaurants. Katana is mentioned in top publications for its ambiance but the soul of this place is in its kitchen. Its name echoes the culture’s history. The scene is true Sunset strip magic: stars, wanna-b’s and everything in between. Aesthetically pleasing, you are seduced as soon as you walk past the host station. The interior décor is rich with Asian accents and different textures on the walls and bar areas.
Katana is known for the Robata-yaki traditional Japanese style of cooking. This specialty features a special charcoal rock brought in from an exotic part of the world. The meats that are cooked over this open grill absorb the flavors making everything on the menu absolutely delicious. A playground for your taste buds. After trying a seaweed salad and miso soup, I opted for “the feast.” The official name is Izakaya’s Feast and it’s a three course meal with highlights from the chef’s top offerings. These exquisite dishes included warm lobster rolls, sweet Chilean Seabass, halibut sashimi, and the house specialty of robata skewers with different dipping sauces.
The attentive staff and perfect pace made it a really special meal. Capping the evening with a large cinnamon wonton shell and rum raisin ice cream was the ultimate happy ending and seal of approval in my book.
