Echo Park and Elysian Park

…eclectic, bustling, diverse…and catchy

What do you suppose would make Echo Park worthy of an entire Joseph Arthur song? Let’s explore: it’s a tiny little blip on the map that borders the 101, just near Chinatown. It’s home to Dodger Stadium, Elysian Park, the second largest park in LA, and the LAPD’s Police Academy. It also has Echo Park Lake, on which you can take a paddle boat ride – and that’s definitely worthy of a tune.

You’ll find low rents along some of Sunset Boulevard, and some higher rents in Victorian homes in Angelino Heights. There’s an interesting architectural mix throughout, including Craftsman, Spanish and mid-century modern - and that’ll make anyone happy enough to at least whistle.

The real reason it’s song-worthy, though? Most likely, the diverse mix of original residents—the hippies, radicals and intellectuals, the film and TV workers, Latinos, Greeks, musicians, you name it—combined with the fresh, young and excited faces of the fashion and art worlds. Such a meeting of the minds will always result in something to sing about.
