Self-powered transportation, namely biking, can be the most satisfying form of transportation. Point A to Point B...a little sweat...done and done. It is something to be proud of. But sometimes self-powered transportation takes way too long, or you're just way too lazy.
In that case, Derringer Cycles, which recently opened in the Mid-Wilshire neighborhood, has the solution. They are selling hand-built replicas of 1920’s Board Track Racing Motorcycles that can be pedaled as a traditional bicycle, propelled via engine power, or pedaled with the assistance of engine power. So whatever the need, these bikes pretty much got you covered.
When you are running on engine power, the gas mileage is great and the emissions are low, plus the wheels exist sans carbon black. And no matter what you’re running, man-power, engine-power or a hybrid, you’ll pretty much be the slickest thing on the road.
The bikes were designed by renowned industrial designer Adrian Van Anz (the guy who invented Jay-Z blue). He realized that efficiency isn’t enough to get people using efficient transportation (case and point, the attack of the mega SUV every time you step out your door). So he simply made the bikes look cool.
According to Blackburn and Sweetzer, the bikes feature a Honda-built 4-cycle engine that gets around 180 mpg, and meets the EURO3 Emission standards. They are just under the legal classification for mopeds, and no additional license is required to operate one in most states. The bikes sold for road use can go about 30 mph.
