Winding northward along the side streets of Brentwood, it’s easy to get distracted by luxe condos, modern apartment complexes, well-kept single-family homes and multi-million dollar estates. Yet as you find yourself inching up the mountains, you’ll eventually realize that the restaurants and shops of the main drag, San Vicente Boulevard, are far behind you.

Brentwood houses some of LA’s wealthiest execs and professionals (Hollywood’s hotlist included). Navigate your way toward the flatter, more affordable side of this ‘hood south of Sunset Boulevard and you’ll find longtime landmark, Dutton’s Brentwood Bookstore, heralded as one of the “last truly independent bookstores”—definitely another great area in which to wander.

Dutton's Brentwood Closing Its Doors

Dutton's Brentwood Books, one of LA's great independent bookstores, is closing it's doors after 23 years of business. Dutton's location is to be redeveloped. It is unsure whether Dutton will open a new store, unfortunately, the competitive pressures of big box stores have resulted in, as Dutton puts it, 'a sober assessment of the realities of the book world.'
