A visit to Chinatown's Mayflower Restaurant is worth the trip

Everyone that lives outside of the borders of Metro Los Angeles knows how hard it is to get your hands on some good Chinese. Chinatown is the obvious choice for such a craving if you forget the stack of take-out flyers piling up in that dirty drawer. After some “not so memorable” experiences in the downtown area, I let my friend take me to a place called Mayflower (Where: 679 N Spring St, Los Angeles, CA 90012) that specializes in seafood. Their lobster house special was the first thing recommended by the waitress but that would have been too much for a quick lunch on a Saturday afternoon…specially with shopping on the brain.

After looking over the very long menu that included every combination of noodles, vegetables, and meat you can imagine, we decided to split an order of their sautéed sole fillet of fish. Along with that we asked for a few side dishes: braised assorted veggies, pan fried sea cucumbers, and the house fried rice. Everything was served very fast and brought in through the front door…must have been an easier access from the kitchen next door. The food was incredibly good, tasty, and very reasonably priced.

The next time you are in the mood for really good grub, do not think about ordering in! Be kind to your tummy, jump in the car and head down to Spring Street for a little or a lot of authentic Chinese.
