Once upon a time it was considered the “rural outskirts” of the valley, but then again, weren’t even the biggest urban centers just farmland at one point?

The Southwest Valley is an emerging ’hood, where residential development (a great mix of homes and apartments, btw) has attracted an influx of businesses, recreational facilities, retail and dining options.

Check out any of the eight smaller communities in the Rhodes Ranch area, each of which are enclosed within a guarded gate and connected by the Ted Robinson-designed Rhodes Ranch Golf Course. If you want to stay active, but aren’t crazy about golf, a 34,000-sq.-ft. rec center is here for you.

A newer, but still notable community here in the valley is Southern Highlands, which still has plenty of room to grow. Its “Village Center” dwarfs a typical community building, with a fitness center, childcare, shopping and dining. A man-made lake will provide cooler afternoons for generations to come.
