The recent opening of Town Square on Las Vegas Boulevard is one of many new additions which have brought South Las Vegas into The Strip’s “picture.” For many years, southern access onto Las Vegas Boulevard came via Nevada Highway 604, which is still technically Las Vegas Boulevard. Those entering the valley from the east rather than the south gained access to The Strip via Highway 160, which ultimately becomes Blue Diamond Road. With several miles separating Blue Diamond Road and Russell Road, residents of South Las Vegas were often delayed in accessing Las Vegas Boulevard. The implementation of the I-215 Bruce Woodbury Beltway has assisted both South Las Vegas and Henderson residents in their commute to The Strip. However, residents of both areas who live close to Las Vegas Boulevard are not always facilitated by the I-215 Beltway. The entrances to the I-215 Beltway via Interstate 15 require more travel for these residents than surface streets. The Warm Springs Road overpass provides a convenient alternative for South Las Vegas residents west of Interstate 15 and commuters coming from the highly industrial Dean Martin Drive. Just a couple of miles north, Harmon Ave. will soon provide similar access to Las Vegas Boulevard, right into the forthcoming City Center.
Town Square is the Valley’s newest shopping/residential district. The center includes popular restaurant spots like Claim Jumper and California Pizza Kitchen, as well as Rave Motion Pictures, a California-style mega movie theater. Accommodating to the shoppers’ diverse tastes, Town Square offers stores like Victoria’s Secret as well as Guitar Center. Also provided by Town Square is direct
access onto both Interstate 15 and the I-215 Beltway. This direct access makes Town Square a more attractive alternative for shoppers than The Desert Passage shops inside the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino, which are accessible only through the often painstaking Las Vegas Strip traffic. Soon, this traffic will seem all the less discouraging for South Las Vegas residents as they reach The Strip via more convenient alternatives like Harmon Ave. and Warm Springs Road.
