About 30 miles from the city, the Lake Mead area provides desert dwellers with low-key living and some of the most naturally diverse views near Vegas.
The highlight, of course, is the lake itself, which is the largest man-made reservoir in the country. The lake was formed by the damming of the Colorado River in the 1930s when the famous Hoover Dam was built, and connects three of the four desert regions in the U.S. (Mohave, Sonoran and Great Basin).
A resting place for Bighorn sheep, bobcats, coyotes, foxes, snakes and endangered falcons, it’s also an ideal place for you to relax and refresh, too, with boating, fishing, water skiing, swimming and more. Depending on the water level, you can see several small- and medium-sized islands.
Desert dwelling with water views? How cool is that!
