…the park's the thing

It's the "why" and "because" of this 'hood.

Perfectly situated south of downtown Denver, the area is named after the red-tinted stones along the Platte River, which happens to flow through the neighborhood. The park is considered a landmark. It's got a high bluff that offers an awesome view of the rest of the city…which is probably why it was tagged a choice lookout to Native Americans. Now it's used for sledding, boarding and tubing.
In fact, Winter Park Resort recently opened Ruby Hill Rail Yard…a haven for skiers, snowboarders and all-around snow junkies because of its terrain (it forms a natural bowl. Perfect.)

In the snowless months, this park, along with others in the area, is a great place for hanging. Or, for the physically inclined—baseball, softball, swimming and just plain fun.
