Printed Page Trades Books for Food

Posted by Murphy Applegate on 11/18/2009 4:47:13 PM in Washington Park and Platt Park, literary, charity, culture

The Printed Page, a co-op bookstore that recently opened in the Washington and Platt Park neighborhood, has a habit of giving away free books for one reason or another. This time they are paring down their overstocked inventory in exchange for donations to the FISH food pantry.

The East Denver FISH is a small, non-profit, emergency food pantry that has been delivers groceries to people without transportation or who are homebound for medical reasons. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture some 49 million Americans are 'food insecure' (up from 36 million just 2 years ago). In 2008, FISH delivered groceries to more than 2,800 people, half of whom were children.

Want to help out and get an interesting read for free? Stop by the Printed Page "Food for Thought" drive before Sunday, December 20, to drop off your non-perishable food donations and pick up your free book - one for every food item donated! Free books will also be given for monetary donations, too.

The Printed Page Bookshop is located at 1416 S. Broadway in Platt Park, and is open Monday through Saturday from 10:30am - 5:30pm, as well as Sundays from noon to 5pm.
