…started with a boom and has yet to bust

In 1984 coal was discovered on the piece of land that is now the small town of Lafayette. Due to the size and productivity of the Lafayette mines, the town quickly became the hot seat of the coal mining boom. Yet even after the decline of the industry, the town of Lafayette keeps chugging along.

Today, you’ll find booming culture and commerce (well, booming, in a small town sort of way) in the revitalized Old Town district along Public Road. Numerous parks, running trails, a championship golf course, Waneka Lake and spectacular mountain views keep the family and outdoor sports enthusiasts entertained. A variety of unique, if not tasty, events are held each year in Lafayette, including an Oatmeal, a Peach and a Wine Festival.

Located in southeast Boulder County, Lafayette is full of neat, tree-lined neighborhoods set against the backdrop of the Flatirons. And only 18 miles north of Denver and 10 miles east of Boulder, residents still maintain their easy-going home town atmosphere, but can easily drive to the city for an adrenaline rush of activity.
