If You Lived in an Apartment in Littleton, What Would You Do Next Weekend

You think there's nothin' to do in Littleton?

Okay, Friday night on the way home: duck into Table Mesa Restaurante and Cantina down in Aspen Grove [where: 7301 S Santa Fe Dr, Littleton, CO 80120] and have a Salty Chihuahua and an appetizer – it’s fish on Friday’s, right? So belly up to the ceviche bar! (Ceviche = Spanish sushi.) Get an order of fresh guac – too good to pass up with the home-made chips. If you’re having dessert (and why shouldn’t you, you’ve been so good), order the pound cake soaked in three kinds of sweet milk, served with grilled bananas and caramel. You just started the weekend! Their phone is 303-962-8888 – check on reservations.

Saturday morning in your luxury apartment in Littleton: look around for the books you’ve already read that are stacked in the corner. Put them in a tote bag (I’ll explain later) and head for Toast, at Bowles and Littleton Boulevard [where: 2700 W Bowles Ave, Littleton, CO 80120]. This place has gotten some rave reviews over the last year, particularly from Jason Sheehan, Westword. Best line from the review? He describes Toast as “pancakes and rainbows.” It gets packed, so be patient.

After you’re fed and caffeinated, head over to the Neighborhood Book Store [where: 5661 S Curtice St, Littleton, CO 80120] and convert your book trade-ins to something else to read – maybe a mystery or some poetry or a travel book. And while you’re there, don’t forget to pick up that birthday card you keep forgetting to send.

Stop in at the Savory Spice Shop [where: 2650 W Main St, Littleton, CO 80120] and get some spices because, even though you live in an apartment and therefore don’t cook, you have been known to throw a pot of chili together. When you walk in the door here, you’ll be transported - the aroma is intoxicating. And those nice ladies inside will get you squared away for chili seasoning or anything else you need.

Run up to A Knitted Peace [where: 5654 S Prince St, Littleton, CO 80120] and sign up for a class – you know you want to. And then you’ll get to meet some folks in a very warm and fuzzy (no pun intended) atmosphere. Just don’t touch every gorgeous skein in the store – you’ll be there all day.

Just south on Santa Fe, Hudson Gardens has a summer concert series and adult classes on gardening and art. As a matter of fact, they have a hip-hop dance class starting January 21. And even though hip-hop is dead cuz Nas said so, it’s always a good thing to get your groove on. So stop by, sign up.

Platte River Bar & Grille [where: 5995 S Santa Fe Dr, Littleton, CO 80120] serves up a great buffalo burger and the beer flows freely – Sam Adams Winter is now on tap. It’s a great place to meet up with friends and chow down  on a late Saturday afternoon. The patio out back is beautiful during the summer, and the wait staff hums year round. And from here, it’s a quick hop onto Light Rail  to head downtown for the evening.

Sunday morning you’re going for a hike along the South Platte because all you’ve done is eat and drink, for heavens sake! There’s a park on Federal, just north of Bowles. Leave your car there and walk east along Bowles around the Littleton Golf and Tennis Center [where: 5800 S Federal Blvd, Littleton, CO 80123] and you’ll see the trail. Take that north for a few blocks (bring someone with you and get a photo of yourself with the pioneers sculpture) and you’ll run into the Egg & I, which is opening soon on the south side of Belleview. Get fed and caffeinated, pick up the Sunday Times and have a nice stroll back to your car. Stop by the grocery store and get the other supplies for that pot of chili you’re making. You’ve got people coming over to watch the game, remember?

And you thought there was nothing to do!
