GM to Provide Green Cars for the Democratic National Convention

Some interesting comments were posted on the Rocky Mountain News website in response to an article about GM providing Green Cars - flex fuel and hybrid - for the Denver Democratic National Convention in August. The vehicles, which will include the Saturn Vue, the Aura Green Line and the Chevrolet Malibu, will be used to shuttle DNC VIPs to convention activities. This is GM’s eighth consecutive year as official vehicle provider for the Democratic National Convention. Of course GM couldn’t just bring a Hummer or a Chevy Truck to town - those aren’t synergetic with current buzz words.

One commenter said: Green Cars? Why don’t they walk, ride the bus or take the Light Rail? That’s a good point, except for the fact that Democratic VIPs don’t walk, ride the bus or take the Light Rail. However, as far as I can see the heaviest users of the light rail are sports fans looking to avoid astronomical parking fees on game days. This isn’t totally true, but when all eyes are on Denver, and every hotel room in the city is rented out, not to mention hundreds of apartments, studios, lofts, condos and townhomes, why not promote the alternative transportation programs already have in place from our award winning RTD. That could be a good PR move for the city. Of course, that’s not how it works.

Furthermore, the debate continues as to whether ethanol burning transportation is actually a better alternative.
