It took an act of Congress to create this neighborhood. Seriously. The area, once filled with cemeteries (way long ago), was converted from federal to city ownership in the late 1800s, then spent most of the next century evolving into the architecturally rich area it is today. Nice going, feds!

If you’re into architecture, this is the place. Most of the construction occurred in the early 1900s, and continued through the '60s. Here you’ll see examples of sturdy Denver Squares, grand Gothic and Dutch Colonial Revivals and graceful Queen Annes, along with the modern Congress Park apartments that sprouted up later.

Indie bars and restaurants line Colfax Avenue. Grab a drink and a bite to eat at Goosetown Tavern, Mezcal or the Atomic Cowboy before heading to a show at the Bluebird.

Congress Park has playgrounds, tennis courts and a swimming pool. The vicinity takes in Greek Town—a six-block section filled with assorted festivities and lively diner-type restaurants—and the Denver Botanic Gardens, where there’s always something outdoorsy going on.

Having some shopping withdrawal? Cherry Creek Shopping Center isn't far either. Sweet.
